HOW ARE WE GOING TO ACHIEVE ALL OF THIS
Our intention is to rescue as many homeless children living in the city of San Salvador as possible. As we have already mentioned it under the Our Homes section our Foundation already counts with two rented houses where we have placed the children according to their ages. We provide them with the following:
Food
Shelter
Education
Psychological Assistance
Clothing
Recreational Activities
The strategies to be developed are detailed in the Project's report. We are trying to take active steps in view of the severe problems we have mentioned regarding the children's present situation.
First of all, drug rehabilitation will be carried out in a very simple manner. Three important rehabilitation steps are, sports, adequate nutrition and keeping these children away from drugs. At the same time, the collaborators will be in charge of making the minors aware of the danger and damage regarding the use of drugs.
Secondly, they shall not be exposed to child exploitation; the collaborators will make sure that these children make use of their time in learning, sports and free time activities. In the way the minors are well nourished and not in contact with drugs, there will be a reduction of criminal activities. Infantile prostitution will also be eradicated, as the girls will be educated and will not need to prostitute themselves in order to feed themselves. Once the children are under control of the Home, they will also enjoy some sort of legal support that will be facilitated through the Salvador Institute for Protection to Minors.
Third, they will have a home. The Foundation will play a double role, visiting the children's broken up homes and reintegrate them into the family life. On several occasions, family problems have been solved or they have a solution but the children are scared of returning to their homes. The Foundation's social workers will act as mediators between the children and their parents. In the case of orphans, they may be place in homes of families willing to adopt them or be placed at educational centers for homeless children.
Fourth, once these children are drug-free, they will not enter into violent arguments with their siblings nor with drug traffickers. They will no longer be exposed to violence with gangs. The Salvadoran Institute for Protection to Minors will be able to offer legal support in case of abuse by law enforcement agents.
Fifth, the social workers will give the children classes on sexual education as well as teaching them about hygienic care, to decrease any risk of infections or any other sickness. The children will be sent for medical examinations to cure any illness they may have where they will receive adequate medication.
